The School provides fantastic opportunities for students to both participate and perform in these two activities across three terms.

There are Cross Country teams in every age group up to senior level who regularly compete in the autumn and spring terms. Practice runs after school on Monday and Cassiobury Park provides an excellent opportunity for the top athletes to push themselves on challenging routes as well as providing endurance fitness to all who wish to participate.

The School teams compete in local District fixtures and travel further afield to pit themselves against top schools in the  independent and state sectors. There is also the opportunity every 2 years for the senior squad to travel to Majorca to train in a warm weather training camp.

During the summer term, our second tier sport, Athletics, runs Year 7 & 8 and Year 9 & 10 teams who compete in the Hertfordshire Schools Athletics League and the local District competition. The full range of disciplines is offered with training taking place on Monday after school making use of our 400m grass track, tracked long /triple jump pit and throwing circles. The School has participated in the Hertfordshire and National Youth athletics teams in Pole Vault, High Jump and the Sprints.

Both activities’ seasons finish with award and dinner evenings to celebrate the great contribution the students show throughout the year and the Senior Captains names are immortalised on the Honours Boards in our Main School Hall.

All teams for both sports are run by Mr A P Beere of the PE department.
