WBGS SPRING CONCERTS - 27/28 MARCH

Tickets are now available for the Spring Concerts on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March.   Click here to go straight to the ticket sales site.

Our musicians have worked very hard to prepare two exciting and contrasting programmes for the two evenings and we would all very much welcome your support. The two concerts are not the same and have different groups playing on the two nights, so please check carefully before you purchase your tickets.

The groups performing on Wednesday 27th March will be:

  • SENIOR BRASS ENSEMBLE
  • SAX ENSEMBLE
  • SENIOR CHOIR
  • BIG BAND
  • CRESCENDO STRINGS
  • BRASS BAND
  • SENIOR WIND BAND

On the Wednesday evening, the Senior Wind Band will play music from the motion pictures’ Star Trek and The Greatest Showman, whilst the Big Band will perform the lively Benny Goodman number Sing Sing Sing. The Crescendo Strings will play a Scherezade Suite by Rimsky Korsakov and the Senior Choir, following Skyfall will combine with the Brass Band for a rendition of Samuel Hazo’s Today is the Gift. The Senior Brass Ensemble will play an arrangement of Beyond the Sea, by Alan Fernie, and the saxophone ensemble the theme from Cagney and Lacey.

Those performing on Thursday 28th March are:

  • FRIDAY BAND
  • PIANO TRIO
  • GUITAR GROUPS
  • JUNIOR BRASS ENSEMBLE
  • FULLER QUARTET
  • SENIOR STRINGS
  • SENIOR ORCHESTRA

On the Thursday evening, the Senior Guitar Group will be playing Stairway to Heaven and the Fuller Quartet a movement from Smetana’s first string quartet. A recently-formed Piano Trio will play music by Frank Bridge, the Junior Brass Ensemble will play On the Sunnyside of the Street and the Friday Band will play Tito Puente’s Oye Coma Va. Senior Strings are going to perform the third movement from Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Johann and Josef Strauss’s Pizzicato Polka. The Senior Orchestra are going to perform Dansas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon. All in all, plenty of variety and musical excitement!

To purchase tickets, please click here. You will then need to print off a ticket or bring in your confirmation email. Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £1 for students. Both concerts start at 7pm and will be over by 9.30pm

We are once again very grateful to the Friends of the School for organising the refreshments for the two evenings and, as usual, a wide variety of refreshments will be on sale.
