After what feels like an eternity of restrictions, six year 12 students attended a two day residential workshop at the University of Kent as part of the Industrial Cadets Gold programme.  Watford Boys was one of twelve schools attending. They enjoyed a tour of the university’s engineering department and the facilities available to them during the workshop, not to mention a couple of short presentations relating to careers in engineering and student life at UoK. The rest of the time they worked on their project and were able to take advantage of the Autocad software available to render a 2D file which allowed them to use a laser cutter to cut out the wood pieces needed for their model. This was fantastic as they could not have done this at school and in addition to learning some new skills enabled them to make significant progress on their project. It was not all work though, everyone tried out the virtual reality equipment members of the university department are working on which was very exciting. All in all the trip was rewarding and productive for the team and they returned more enthusiastic than ever.
